October Goals – I’m Going to Join You!

Every now an then I try to post something motivational to Facebook for my friends and family. I get excited thinking about whether or not it helped them. I don’t always get much feedback from those posts but I enjoy putting them out there anyway. When I posted one last Sunday, quite a few peeps clicked on the “Like” button. That was inspiring to me in a way that was different this time around. I mean…I’ve posted motivation words before…and several family and friends have clicked the “Like” button before. But this time? My spirit said, keep going. So I posted again on Monday and Tuesday and so on…

As I was sharing the steps with you on Facebook, I noticed that I was motivating myself in the process. You see…I’ve been taking alot of personal growth courses over the last few years…a TON of them. Honestly? I love them! But I wasn’t implementing what I learned very well. And that didn’t feel very good.

So…I’m taking the exact same challenge that I’m sharing with you! Below are the three goals that I’ve chosen to work on in October. As I accomplish a step towards one of my goals, I’m going to post a picture and a few words describing what I’ve accomplished and how I feel.

My hope is that it motivates you to do the same. Ultimately? I’m hoping you guys hold me accountable.

Are you with me? Ok, let’s go! It’s Saturday, October 1st and it is officially the BEST time to get in gear. Leave me a comment to let me know how you did this weekend, ok?

See you on Monday!

October Goals – Get ‘Er Done!

How’d you do yesterday? Were you able to come up with the three steps for each of the three goals you want to accomplish in October?

Here’s an example. Need to get your closet organized?

Step 1, find some bags or boxes.

Step 2, determine which bag/box will hold the “save for next season”, “donations” and “garbage” items, etc.

Step 3, block out the day and amount of time you plan to get it done. When you’re done with that, you will have a PLAN to complete your goal of cleaning out your closet!

Remember…feeling the joy of “completion” on each step will help motivate you to move on to the next. In fact…”completion” tells your spirit that its ok to move on!

Come on…you’ve got 3 days…I dare you to come up with your October plan before Friday!

Don’t Wait for the New Year…Start Today!

This time of year is perfect for re-evaluating your goals and dreams. We’re being called to shed the dirt and rise up! Don’t wait for the New Year…start now! You’ll be ready for all that yummy newness on January 1st!

The first step in re-evaluating your goals and dreams is to clearly define them. Really. Take out a notebook or journal and write your goals down and the steps you need to take to achieve them. You don’t get in the car and drive from one end of the country to the other without a map or navigational system, right? Making your life happen is no different. Create a plan, get an accountibility partner and MOVE!

Here’s a challenge for you…Write down all the goals you want to accomplish in October. Go small here…baby steps are ok. Take about 10-15 mins and write them all down on one sheet of paper and number each one. Once you’re done, go back over your list and choose 3 of them by circling the number you’ve assigned to it. Now? Start thinking about how you will tackle these three goals during the month of October. Your spirit will have no choice but to move toward them. Don’t believe me? Try it….

Ok, here’s another step to bring you closer to completing your goals. Write each one of the three you’ve chosen on a new, seperate piece of paper in your notebook or journal…one goal – one piece of paper. And for each of the three goals, write down three…no more and no less…small, simple steps you can complete in October to move you closer to completing that goal.

Tomorrow, I’ll give you another step…but for today? Just concentrate on three goals you want to work on in October.

Remember…most people are going to wait until after the holidays are over to make a move. Why wait? Be different!

To Inspire You For the Weekend…

Planning events is a daunting task…no matter the size or scope.  We love to make things big and dramatic so we can witness all the wide eyed wonder when the guests take their first look.  You know I’m right!  But yesterday, I started planning my soon to be two year old goddaughter’s birthday party and I had to hold myself back.

After writing down my initial thoughts on paper…some cupcakes, a few ballons and a few small gifts, I couldn’t help but take it up a notch or two.  Before long, my notes had a few blush pink draped tents, a cake that looked like a castle, maybe a a lady dressed up like a fairy princess to hand out prizes…suddenly it turned into what looks like a HUGE production.

But then I realized that my precious little one would probably not even notice.  The cupcakes and ballons alone would knock her socks off.  Because to her, it really is a big deal…fairy princesses are important people too, ya know!

“I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble.”
-Helen Keller

Have a wonderful weekend and go accomplish something great and noble!

To Inspire You for the Weekend…

Have you ever heard that doing something for 21 days will develop into a habit?  Aristotle says..

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit.”

So this weekend, start a new habit…go out and chase perfection.  Surely you’ll eventually find excellence!

We’re doing a big birthday party this weekend.  Two events in one day.  I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Was this past week a rough one for you?  The good news is, you’ve made it to Friday!  Here’s a tip…find a good comedy club to go to…watch a really funny movie.  Play dress up with your favorite child.  Whatever you do, laugh a little this weekend.

No…scratch that. Laugh A LOT!!

Mindset Monday: Your Perception is Your Reality

Is your glass half full or half empty?  You’ve heard this phrase before.  The lesson is a valid one, so stay with me here…
How you perceive the things that happen in your life – good and bad – not only shows your underlying mindset about your life, but also plays the most important role in whether you ever reach your goals.
Let’s use the glass to demonstrate this concept. Imagine the glass has Nana’s famous, tasty and sweet lemonade in it, and you really like Nana’s lemonade. What are your thoughts when you see it?
If you’re optimistic, of course you see it as half full. You may have thoughts like these:
  • “Oh, boy! I’ve got some of Nana’s delicious lemonade to quench my thirst!  She really loves me!”
  • As you reach for the glass, you feel anticipation and gratitude for this good and tasty drink.
  • Your thoughts are happily focused on what you have in this moment, not on what you lack.

The simple joy of some nice, cool lemonade and the good feelings that go along with it (because YOUR Nana made it for YOU!), cause your brain to send out energy that vibrates in harmony with good things, and attracts more good things back to you.
Now look at what happens when you’re a pessimist and see the glass as half empty. Your thoughts may be closer to these:
  • “Oh, great (sarcastically). I’m so thirsty and all I’ve got is half a glass of lemonade.”
  • As you reach for the glass, you feel dissatisfaction. You wish you had more.
  • Your thoughts are on what you lack.

Not only do you miss out on any enjoyment from the lemonade, but your mind sends out energy that vibrates in harmony with dissatisfaction and lack. What do you think you’ll attract back to you? More things to be unhappy about and more lack!
This also explains why wishing for something too hard can push it away from you forever. When you’re wishing for something you don’t have, you’re focusing on your lack of it. Focusing on your lack of it only attracts more lack of it back to you!
This simple glass of lemonade shows how your perception is your reality. Two different people can have two totally different experiences from the same circumstance. One person’s experience adds to the happiness of a joyful life and the other’s adds more problems to their unsatisfying existence.
It also explains why some people can make lemonade (and enjoy it) when life hands them lemons, while some just can’t.
When you apply this lesson to your own life, what do you find? Are you attracting good things or more lack? Could you use some ways to change your mindset?
Each Monday over the next few weeks I’ll share with you some of the techniques I’ve learned and used to turn my thinking around.  I’m sharing them with you because I truly want to help you reach your goals.  These concepts seem simple and they may even sound corny; but they’ve changed my life….especially when I practice them intentionally instead of just reading them and moving on to the next “glossy, shiny” thing.

Until next time…
