Choose a Job That Is Looking for You…Not the Other Way Around

As we enter the end of the third quarter of 2011, I can’t help but think about where I was this time last year. Unemployed, not making much money in my small business and worried about whether or not I could find a job that would pay the bills. Many of my friends and family across the country are still in search of a job.

I realized quickly that I may need to look “outside of the box” to find my next job. So I decided to “flip the script” and use some of the principles I teach my business coaching clients.

Write down all the things you are passionate about.

Write down all the things you know how to do instinctively – what you were born with. These are your talents.

Write down all of the things you have learned how to do. These are your skills.

You now have what I like to call your “PTS” Profile.

Passion – Talent – Skills

It’s what you bring to the table when looking for a job or when thinking about starting your own business.

Make the list…you’ll be surprised at what you have to offer!

And then start looking at all the companies that can benefit from your career “toolkit”. It doesn’t matter if they have any job openings. You’re looking for a company that is “worthy” of the skills you offer…not the other way around!
